KFDI-FM/KFTI-AM Win Three Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

Wichita, Kan. — The reputation of KFDI-FM 101.3 and KFTI-AM 1070 as news leaders continues with the announcement that the stations have won three regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA).

The KFDI News Department was awarded the Murrows in the categories of Overall Excellence for a compilation of 2007 news stories, Spot News for coverage of a chemical plant explosion and fire in Valley Center, and Continuing Coverage following the Greensburg tornado.

National judging will be held in Washington, D.C., in June. If one of the three regional awards wins at that level, it will be the sixth consecutive year the KFDI News Department has been honored with a national Edward R. Murrow Award.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized and receive three regional Edward R. Murrow awards. Dan Dillon and his News team have a rich history of delivering a quality news and information product to our listeners,” said Journal Broadcast Group Wichita Operations Vice President and General Manager Eric McCart.

KFDI and KFTI are part of Region 5, which consists of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.

The RTNDA has honored outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Recipients must demonstrate the journalistic excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the electronic news profession. Judging is done in Washington, D.C., by the RTNDA Board of Directors.

For a complete list of award winners, visit the Radio-Television News Directors Association web site at www.rtnda.org.
