Cape Coral, Fla. —FOX 4 (WFTX-TV) is further emphasizing its “In Your Corner” news brand by expanding weekly programming to include an hour-long newscast from 6-7 p.m. each weeknight. The new local news program is scheduled to begin in late summer. The announcement was made Friday by Judy Kenney, vice president and general manager of the station.
“We’re determined to continue building our ‘In Your Corner’ brand to give our viewers a voice while holding the powerful accountable,” Kenney said. “This is the right time for our news to expand. We work every day to connect to the viewers who want a different kind of newscast. They continue to tell us they need a newscast that is more than just headlines and that’s what we’ll deliver on FOX 4.”
News Director Eric Maze echoed Kenney’s comments: “We’re going to offer an alternative to viewers they don’t have now by providing local news from 6 to 7 p.m.”
“The 6 to 7 p.m. time slot is an advantage to busy lifestyles,” he added. “Many working people miss the local 6 o’clock news. Now they will have the opportunity to watch a 6:30 p.m. local cast.”
WFTX-TV currently broadcasts three and a half hours of news each weekday: FOX 4 Rising from 6-8 a.m.; 60 minutes in prime time called FOX 4 News at 10PM; and the late night half hour, FOX 4 News at 11. In addition, FOX 4 produces a local lifestyle show called The Morning Blend, airing weekdays at 8 a.m.
The station is owned by Journal Broadcast Group.
